FIRST LISTEN: The Stammer’s ‘LOW’ and ‘FIRST EMBRACE’
Philadelphia post-punk trio The Stammer have shared two songs with us in a prequel to their upcoming full length. My favorite of the two, ‘Low,’ starts off in an LCD manner, catchy bass line over punchy off beat drums that are really on beat. The arrangement is joined shortly thereafter by ringing guitar chords and a dead-pan vocal melody familiar to anyone who grew up on New Order. ‘First Embrace’ starts off in a similar manner, but with more of a The Drums and The Cure combo meal. The song opens up at the end into a My Bloody Valentine chorus/outro that you wish goes on for a little bit longer. This band is a self-aware blend of all things post-punk and if these two songs are any indicator of what their worth, the pending doom of a full length will be much anticipated on our end.
